This week’s Player of the Week honor goes to Tyler Knutson, the standout senior quarterback from Patriot High School. , Tyler led his team to victory with an impressive performance, throwing for 198 yards and four touchdowns while completing 11 of 17 passes.
Reflecting on his biggest highlight of the week, Tyler recalls a pivotal moment on third and long. "I had to roll to my left and throw back into the middle of the field to convert," he said, showcasing his ability to make tough plays under pressure.
Tyler’s leadership both on and off the field has been key to the team’s success. One moment that stood out to him was when his offensive line struggled during a tough series. "I took them aside on the sideline, let them know they just needed to get out of their heads and play our brand of football. The next drive, we had a great series," he shared. Tyler's calm leadership helped his teammates refocus, driving them to perform their best.
When asked about his motivation, Tyler is quick to point to his team. "I love to see my guys rally around me and embrace our team during the highs and lows. It motivates me to play a team-centered game and not try to play selfish," he explained. Despite being consistently underrated throughout his career, Tyler uses that as fuel to keep pushing, proving that he deserves recognition for his hard work and dedication.
Tyler also had to overcome a personal challenge this week, playing while sick. He credits rest and hydration for helping him stay focused and lead his team to victory. When it comes to handling pressure, Tyler says, "I take a moment and step away to clear my head and get back centered in the game."
As for the rest of the season, Tyler’s goal is simple but ambitious: win a state championship. Long-term, he hopes to play Division 1 football next fall.
Off the field, Tyler enjoys spending time with family and friends. Before every game, he has a unique ritual: walking the field while listening to music to clear his mind and prepare for the game ahead.
Tyler credits his coaches and teammates for their continuous support. "I’d like to thank my team and coaches for putting their faith in me every week and pushing me to do my best," he said.
Congratulations, Tyler, for an outstanding week and for being a true leader for Patriot High School! We look forward to seeing more of your success on the field.
