A new era is underway at Tuscarora under the leadership of head coach James Carter, and early signs point to something special brewing in Leesburg. Carter, who’s coached at a number of programs over the years, didn’t hesitate when asked how things are going at his new post: “Hands down the best place I have ever coached,” he said. With strong administrative support, great facilities, and a committed parent community, the foundation is set.
This offseason, the Huskies have been all business. According to Carter, this group is the hardest working team he’s ever been around, fully embracing the changes, adversity, and expectations that come with a new staff. The players have taken ownership of the program and are building a winning culture brick by brick.
The 2025 schedule leaves no room for complacency. “Every game is circled,” Carter said, pointing to the tough road tests and critical home games that will shape their path. That mindset is especially important considering Tuscarora will be replacing 10 defensive starters. Fortunately, there’s a tough, hungry group of young players ready to step in.
Fans should keep their eyes on several standout athletes this season. Lucas Allen (6'4", 250) is a powerful presence at OT/DE, bringing leadership and high-end talent to both sides of the ball. Tyler Wolovich (6'3", 225) is an emerging force at TE/DE, poised for a breakout year as a move tight end and edge defender. Running back/free safety Zain Elian (5'10", 175) will take over the backfield with vision, burst, and playmaking ability.
The wide receiver group is another unit ready to shine, especially with Tuscarora shifting to a spread-style "veer and shoot" offense. The scheme change is a big departure from previous years, but the senior-heavy offensive line and emerging pass catchers are expected to make the most of it.
Carter described his squad as a “working class, blue collar football team,” but added they’re beginning to carry themselves with a bit of swagger thanks to emerging leadership. The staff will be completely new across the board, and their offensive approach is radically different from what fans are used to—but the confidence in execution is sky high.
More than anything, the coaching staff will be looking for toughness and resilience in the opening weeks. “Willingness to compete and ability to handle adversity,” Carter said. “We hammer these two principles into our players.”
The Huskies may be turning the page on last year’s roster, but there’s no question this is a group on the rise—with the kind of work ethic and internal belief that can carry them deep into November.
