In a display of poise and precision, Matthew Abramson proved why he’s the heart of Washington-Liberty’s offense. The senior quarterback’s ability to stay calm and deliver in key moments was on full display, earning him the well-deserved title of Patriot District Player of the Week

Matthew put up impressive stats, completing 23 of 31 passes for 296 yards and two touchdowns, with a stellar completion percentage of 74.2%. "I think that my completion percentage was one of my best stats because it really shows how efficient our offense is," Matthew said. "Above 70% is very solid and a good reason why we were able to keep the sticks moving."

One of Matthew’s biggest highlights of the week came during the first half when his team faced a challenging situation. After a big pass play was called back due to holding, Washington-Liberty was backed up to their own 25-yard line. On the next play, facing 3rd and long, the offensive line held strong, giving Matthew the time he needed to connect with his receiver for a deep pass, resulting in a crucial touchdown. "That play was a turning point for us," he reflected.

Matthew’s contribution to the team’s success goes beyond his passing ability. He emphasizes his role as a facilitator, ensuring that the team’s best players get the ball in positions to make big plays. "The offensive line kept the pocket clean, the running backs made big plays, and our receivers brought down everything—I just got them the ball," he explained.

A key moment that stood out to Matthew was the very first play of the game, a 10-yard completion that set the tone for the entire team. "Most teams don’t pass on the first play, but when our offense was able to get a completion and move the sticks on the first play, it got the whole team going," he said.

Matthew’s motivation comes from his love for the game and the opportunity to play for his teammates and community. "Being able to play for my teammates and for my community truly motivates me to continue playing to the best of my ability," he shared. He also draws inspiration from NFL legend Drew Brees, admiring Brees’s play style, leadership, and ability to excel despite being considered undersized for the position.

Facing challenges is part of the game, and Matthew handled them with poise. The team’s Saturday game meant extra practice time in the heat, which put additional strain on his arm. However, Matthew was well-conditioned and managed to keep his arm healthy through various exercises. "The extra practice was tough, but I stayed focused and kept my arm in good shape," he noted.

When it comes to handling pressure during important moments, Matthew relies on his preparation and his trust in his teammates. "The only way to calm the nerves is to lean back on all the preparation that we put in to believe that we are the better team," he said.

Looking ahead, Matthew’s goals for the rest of the season are simple yet ambitious: to continue performing at a high level and winning games. Long-term, he aims to stay healthy in sports and maintain good grades in school.

Off the field, Matthew enjoys spending time with his friends, many of whom are also on the football team. His pre-game rituals include listening to music and avoiding his phone for a couple of hours before the game to ensure he is fully immersed in the task ahead.

To his teammates and coaches, Matthew expressed his gratitude: "I just want to say thank you. I am really enjoying the season and all of our success. None of this would be possible without my teammates or coaches, so thank you."

Congratulations to Matthew Abramson for earning the Patriot District Player of the Week honor! His precision, leadership, and dedication continue to propel Washington-Liberty forward
