As the Alexandria Titans prepare for the upcoming football season, Coach Rodney Hughey speaks on last year's challenges and growth. "We did not play up to our standard," he admits. "However, we all learned that the young men at Alexandria City High School are tough and resilient."
Last season, the Titans fielded a notably young varsity team. Despite their inexperience, the team boasted a productive running game, a testament to their determination and raw talent. The lessons learned from last year have set a strong foundation for the upcoming season.
The offseason brought significant development for the Titans, both physically and mentally. "This group developed physical and mental toughness during this offseason," says Coach Hughey, indicating a readiness to face the challenges ahead. The players have shown a remarkable commitment to improvement, pushing themselves in training to ensure they are prepared for the demanding schedule. "We have a great schedule this season; every game will be exciting," says Coach Hughey.
The advantage of having a young team last season is evident in the minimal gaps to fill. With most of the roster returning, the team maintains a strong core, providing stability and experience that they lacked previously.
Among the players to watch this season are several standouts who have made significant strides. Leading the charge is Chase McKnight, a 5'11", 205-pound RB/LB who combines speed and strength. On the line, James Kelly, a 6'3", 250-pound DL/OL, brings size and agility, while William Jemison, a 6'5", 240-pound OL, adds height and power. Viggo Viira and Soufiane Khaldi, both versatile at OL/DL positions, stand at 6'5" and 6'2" respectively, offering formidable presence on the field. Tajir Cooper, another dual-threat at 6'1", 270 pounds, completes a robust line-up.
In the receiving corps, Lucas Callahan and Nate Solku, both 6'2", 160 pounds, provide reliable targets and defensive capabilities. Their athleticism and versatility will be crucial for the Titans' success on both sides of the ball.
As the Alexandria Titans gear up for the new season, the blend of last year's lessons and offseason growth positions them well for a promising campaign. The team's resilience, bolstered by a strong running game and a maturing roster, sets the stage for an exciting season ahead.
