Arlington, VA — The Washington Liberty Generals delivered a commanding performance in their rescheduled game on Friday evening, defeating the Edison Eagles 49-13 in Arlington, VA. Originally set for Thursday, the game was postponed due to lightning, but the Generals wasted no time making a statement once the action began.

From the opening kickoff, Washington Liberty demonstrated their dominance, taking control of the game and never relinquishing it. The Generals’ quarterback, Matthew Abramson, led a potent offensive attack that overwhelmed the Eagles' defense with a combination of quick passes, deep throws, and powerful runs.

Washington Liberty got off to a fast start, returning the opening kickoff to their 24-yard line. On the opening drive, Abramson quickly connected on short passes, moving the ball steadily down the field. A crucial 26-yard completion from Abramson to Sean Guffey set the Generals up at Edison’s 11-yard line. Moments later, Tommy Ellis powered through with a 3-yard touchdown run, capping an efficient drive and giving the Generals an early 7-0 lead after the successful extra point.

Edison struggled to respond, going three-and-out on their first possession after being pushed back by a strong Generals defense. Washington Liberty took over at their 39-yard line but soon fumbled, giving the ball back to the Eagles. Despite this opportunity, Edison couldn’t capitalize, and Washington Liberty regained possession deep in their territory.

A few plays later, Ellis broke multiple tackles for a spectacular 23-yard touchdown run, extending the Generals’ lead to 14-0 late in the first quarter.

Edison’s offensive woes continued as they were forced to punt after a sack by the Washington Liberty defense. The Generals capitalized on the momentum with a remarkable 38-yard touchdown pass from Abramson to wide receiver #7, who took a screen pass and sprinted to the end zone, eluding multiple defenders. The extra point was good, and Washington Liberty extended their lead to 21-0 just before the end of the first quarter.

Early in the second quarter, Edison finally found some success on offense when their quarterback connected with a wide receiver for a massive 78-yard gain down to the 2-yard line. Although they were stuffed on their first attempt, the Eagles managed to score on a pitch to the running back for a short touchdown. However, the missed extra point left them trailing 21-6.

Undeterred, Washington Liberty quickly struck back. On their next possession, a quick pass from Abramson to wide receiver #7 resulted in a 59-yard touchdown after he weaved through the Edison defense, putting the Generals ahead 28-6 after another successful extra point.

Following a short punt by Edison, the Generals continued their relentless attack. Ellis capped off another drive with a 3-yard touchdown run, increasing the lead to 35-6. Later in the quarter, Washington Liberty’s special teams blocked an Edison punt, setting up a 22-yard touchdown pass from Abramson to Guffey, extending the lead to 41-6 just before halftime.

The second half saw a more balanced battle, with both teams trading punts and defensive stops. Edison tried to rally and moved the ball into Washington Liberty territory, but their drive ended in a crucial interception at the 1-yard line.

Washington Liberty continued their scoring in the third quarter with another 6-yard touchdown run by Ellis, bringing the score to 49-6. The Generals' defense remained solid, containing the Edison offense and forcing multiple punts.

In the fourth quarter, Edison managed to put together one final scoring drive. Their running back took a handoff around the right side and sprinted 23 yards for a touchdown, narrowing the deficit to 49-13. However, it was too little too late, as Washington Liberty’s early dominance had already secured their victory.
