This week, Chantilly High School's junior quarterback, Sahir Mantri, delivered a standout performance that earned him Player of the Week honors for the Concorde District. In just one half of play, Mantri completed a perfect 7-for-7 passing for 216 yards and two touchdowns, proving his efficiency and command on the field. His biggest highlight came in the second quarter, with a 42-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Garrett Carper, a play that demonstrated his deep-ball accuracy and ability to connect with his playmakers.
Mantri's performance set the tone early for Chantilly’s offense, which scored on every drive. "I was able to get the momentum going early and allow us to start fast on offense by completing passes early," Mantri said. "I commanded the offense, and we scored on every drive that we touched the ball."
Reflecting on the game, Mantri emphasized the importance of the first drive, which he saw as a crucial moment. "Setting the tone is very important during a game. Last year, our offense struggled to get first-drive touchdowns, so it was our focus to start off the game hot, and we did," he shared.
When asked what motivates him on the field, Mantri spoke of his commitment to his team. "What motivates me most is playing for my teammates and my team. We all hold each other accountable to the standard we know we should be playing at," he explained. "None of us are worried about individual stats; we just want to get the win as a team—'WE over ME' football."
Mantri draws inspiration from legendary quarterback Tom Brady. "Even without having all the athletic tools that some other quarterbacks in the league have, he was still able to thrive and be the best through his intense work ethic and consistency, which is something I try to emulate," he said.
The week presented its own set of challenges, with extreme weather conditions and a rescheduled game. "One of the large obstacles we faced this week was the weather," Mantri recounted. "Our walkthrough day was 100 degrees, forcing us indoors, and the game got rained out and moved to the next day. We overcame these challenges by staying focused on the task at hand and not messing around."
When facing pressure, Mantri remains calm and positive, understanding the role he plays as a leader. "I know that as a quarterback, my team will reflect my attitude, so if I am not calm, they will not be either," he explained.
Looking ahead, Mantri has set ambitious goals for himself and his team. "I want to win First Team All-Region Quarterback and get recognized as All-State. I also want to be the best quarterback I can for my team and win the region," he stated. His long-term goals include playing quarterback at the Division 1 - FBS level and majoring in finance at a top academic institution.
Off the field, Mantri enjoys cooking, lifting weights, doing art, and spending time with friends. His pre-game routine includes a consistent quarterback warm-up arm routine that he's followed since his freshman year.
Mantri expressed gratitude to his coaches and teammates for their support and dedication. "I would like to thank my coaches and teammates for all the time and effort they have put in this offseason, and for being a big part of who I am today as a quarterback and a leader."
With a performance like this, Sahir Mantri has shown that he is a formidable force at the helm of Chantilly High School's offense. Expect to see more from this young quarterback as he continues to lead his team to success.
