With a fresh season on the horizon, the Langley Saxons are charged with excitement and a renewed focus. With Interim Head Coach Potteiger being named the team began with a promising 5-1 record. However, a string of four losses turned what could have been an 8-2 season into a 5-5 finish. This year, the Saxons are determined to learn from those setbacks and concentrate on finishing games strong.
One of the key challenges this season will be the opening game against Oakton, a team with a new head coach who has instilled a winning attitude. This game carries significant weight as it sets the tone for the season, and the Saxons are aware that it will be a new challenge this year, despite having won the matchup two years in a row.
The Saxons will also need to address the gap left by the departure of Blake Thompson, their all-region tight end and top defensive player, who is now headed to the Navy for track and field. To fill his spot, the team has approached it by committee with several talented players who each specialize in different aspects of his game. However, fully replacing Thompson will be a tough task.
This season, all eyes will be on key players like Cole Samburg and Robert Roncskevitz. Samburg, a junior quarterback standing 5'11" and weighing 175 pounds, is an all-American level lacrosse player who is equally dangerous running and passing. If things go well, he could have an electric year. Meanwhile, Roncskevitz, a senior running back at 5'11" and 185 pounds, is a 1,000+ yard rusher who averaged 8.3 yards per carry last year. As a three-year starter, big things are expected from him this season.
With a mix of returning talent and fresh determination, the Langley Saxons are poised to make a strong impact in the Liberty District. The team is ready to right the wrongs of last season and aim for a successful campaign ahead.
