Herndon High School's senior quarterback, John Callow, has been named Player of the Week for the Liberty District after an impressive showing against Annandale. Callow #5 delivered a standout performance that included multiple passing touchdowns, highlighted by a 55-yard touchdown pass to tight end Casey Speak and another long touchdown pass to wide receiver Brayden Humphreys.
Reflecting on the week, Callow emphasized his role in getting the ball to his playmakers, whether it was through a quick pass or airing it out downfield. "I feel like I just did my job by getting the ball to playmakers however I could," he said. "My receivers made my job easy."
The season's start was a moment of excitement for Callow. "Right as we kicked the ball off, it was just a great feeling to have the season back again," he shared, capturing the thrill of being back on the field with his teammates.
Callow draws motivation from his teammates and coaches, who continuously push and believe in him. "Coach Bachman has probably given me the most inspiration because of how much I feel he trusts me," Callow said. "This is my third year with him as my head coach, and he always works on ways to grow our offense and values my feedback."
This week wasn't without its challenges, as the team dealt with several players being banged up. Despite this, Callow praised his teammates' resilience. "Our guys fought through it, and a lot of them made big plays for us this week," he noted. When faced with pressure, Callow's approach is simple yet effective: "I just trust myself and my teammates that we can face any adversity, which is also something our coaches preach a lot."
Looking ahead, Callow's primary goal for the season is clear: "Winning is the most important thing to me, so we are looking to win championships." Beyond high school, he aims to attend a good university that offers a strong education and, potentially, the opportunity to continue playing football.
Outside of football, Callow enjoys hanging out with friends and playing video games. His pre-game routine includes sticking to the same warm-up and saying a quick prayer before taking the field.
In closing, Callow expressed gratitude to his teammates and coaches: "Thank you for the support and helping me be a better teammate and person every day."
With his leadership and precision, John Callow is set to make this season one to remember for Herndon High School. Keep an eye on this talented quarterback as he guides his team toward their goals.
