This week, Patriot High School senior running back Jackson McCarter put on a performance to remember, earning him the title of Football Player of the Week for the Cedar Run District. In a thrilling game, McCarter racked up an impressive 218 rushing yards on 21 carries, finding the end zone five times. His standout moment came early with a 55-yard touchdown run that set the tone for the rest of the game and sparked the Patriots' momentum.
"I feel like I helped the team come out with energy and start the momentum with my first score," McCarter shared. The early touchdown wasn't just a personal highlight—it was a pivotal moment that energized his teammates and got the crowd on their feet. "During warmups, the whole team was hyped and full of energy, and I think that carried over into the game."
When asked about what motivates him on the field, McCarter doesn't hesitate. "My teammates next to me," he said, reflecting the deep bond he shares with those around him. "And my coach, Coach Johnson, inspires me a lot. He always holds me accountable. Even when I’m having a good game, he’s always there to make sure I’m getting better."
McCarter's determination was put to the test this week when the game was unexpectedly postponed to the next morning at 10 a.m. Instead of letting this disrupt their rhythm, McCarter and his team took it in stride. "We woke up at 5 a.m., went down there, and handled business," he explained, demonstrating resilience and a refusal to let any challenge stand in their way.
Known for his ability to excel under pressure, McCarter thrives in high-stakes situations. "I feel pressure makes me play better. I do well in high-pressure situations," he said, a mindset that has undoubtedly contributed to his success this season.
Looking ahead, McCarter has his sights set on big goals. "Winning states," he declared when asked about his objectives for the rest of the season. But his ambitions don’t stop there; he dreams of making it to the professional league one day.
Off the field, McCarter enjoys spending time with friends and keeps his pre-game routine simple—just listening to music to get into the zone. It's clear that whether he's hanging out with friends or preparing for a big game, McCarter brings the same level of focus and passion to everything he does.
With performances like this past week, Jackson McCarter is proving to be a key leader for Patriot High School, and there's no doubt he's a name to watch as the season progresses. Keep an eye out for more from this standout running back as he continues to push toward his goals and lead his team to victory.
