This week, Gar-Field High School's junior quarterback, Troy Hamlin, proved why he's one of the top playmakers in the region and this weeks Player of the Week for the Cardinal District. Hamlin delivered a commanding performance, throwing for 240 yards and four touchdowns—three of which were explosive passes of 40 yards or more. He also added a rushing touchdown to his stat line, showcasing his versatility and leadership on the field.

One of the standout moments from Hamlin's performance came when he took a big hit to the ribs while delivering a perfect 60-yard touchdown pass to senior James Blacker. "It was a tough play, but that's part of the game," Hamlin said. "I knew I had to make that throw, and James did the rest."

Reflecting on the game, Hamlin credited his team's energy and preparation for their success. "I believe my guys were ready to go from the start. They brought energy, and it showed," he explained. "Our offense starts with me as the quarterback, so when I made that pass out of the pocket to Herman Jackson, and we scored, we never looked back from there."

Hamlin draws motivation from his team’s performance last season, where they finished with a 4-6 record. "I know we are better than 4-6, so I want the guys to play like it," he said. Hamlin also highlighted the influence of his coaches, particularly head coach Zach Edmunds and QB coach Brandon Pitt, who have pushed him to excel this offseason.

This week's game wasn't without its challenges. "Battling in the rain, I knew it would be tough," Hamlin noted. "But as the QB1, I understand you must calm down and lead. Me playing my game got me 5 total touchdowns and the W."

Looking ahead, Hamlin's goals are clear: "I want to continue to lead my team and be successful. We believe we will come out on top at the end." He also has ambitions beyond high school football. "I plan on continuing my career to play college ball. It's always been a dream, and I will always be willing to put in the work."

When he's not on the football field, you can find Hamlin on the basketball court, where he is ranked as a top guard in the state. His pre-game ritual is simple yet effective—listening to music from DMV artist “Havinmotion” to get in the zone.

Hamlin also expressed gratitude to those who have helped him along the way. "I’d like to thank all of my teammates and coaches for getting me better every day."

With performances like this, Troy Hamlin is proving to be a force to be reckoned with in both football and basketball. Keep an eye on this dual-sport athlete as he continues to lead Gar-Field High School to new heights.
