Week 3 Preview for NOVA HS Sports

It is not even Fall yet but through 2 weeks of games we have seen plenty of action. Week 3 should be no different in Northern Virginia with a host of intriguing matchups. I gave my thoughts below on a couple games, if you are a gambler, you may not want to follow my score predictions based on last week’s results…

West Springfield vs South County

Two of the big dogs in the Patriot District are set for a clash in Lorton, Virginia Friday evening, this has the makings of a slugfest. Both squads have division 1 prospects littered all over defensively including Hunter Malecki, Trent Brooks, Aaron Turney and Izaiah Gallagher. Coach Mesa and I will be covering this game so I won’t give a score prediction (your better off trust me), but I will say to expect an old school dog fight in this contest!

Mclean vs Chantilly

We may have a barn burner on our hands out in Chantilly as the Mclean Highlanders are coming in hot. The Chanticleers come in averaging over 40 points in both victories, while the Highlanders may have the best defense in the district. Chantilly has a quarterback in Sahir Mantri who is playing as good as any qb in Virginia right now, while Mclean has playmakers on defense such as Carter Brown and Christian Mcneil looking to slow him down.

Score Prediction: Mclean 28 Chantilly 21

Lake Braddock vs Westfield

Lake Braddock may be smarting a bit after taking one on the chin last week against Madison. While Westfield seems back on track as they dethroned Mount Vernon last Friday. Both teams come into this game even at 1-1 and both will need the victory possibly later in the season in figuring playoff seeding. The Bruins in particular could surely use a boost offensively after getting shut down by the Warhawks.

Score Prediction: Westfield 31 Lake Braddock 28

Wakefield vs Yorktown

This may be off based but I like what I saw two weeks ago from the Wakefield Warriors, particularly offensively with Isiah Ledbetter becoming a star before our own eyes. Now do not get me wrong Yorktown has a great tradition and has looked like a bona fide Region title contender in 2024. This contest could be in the Patriots favor early but do not sleep on the Warriors, they have some hidden playmakers on this squad. Score Prediction Yorktown 34 Wakefield 14
